COORDinate a Safe & Sound Zone: Monitoring Your Nursery Inside & Out
Evenflo Company, Inc. and the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association Alert
Parents and Caregivers How to Safely Use Baby Monitors
Miamisburg, Ohio - July 11, 2012 - Cords on baby audio and video monitors can present a
strangulation hazard to infants and toddlers when placed too close to cribs. As a
preventative measure, Evenflo Company, Inc. has joined the Juvenile Products
Manufacturers Association (JPMA) of Mount Laurel, NJ, in an awareness campaign to
alert parents and caregivers how to properly use and position baby monitors and other
line cords in the nursery.
The safety campaign kicks off today with the launch of www.BabyMonitorSafety.org, a
website dedicated to sharing baby monitor usage and safety tips. Through this portal
parents and caregivers can access baby monitor safety tips, advisories and a public
safety video demonstrating safe use of a baby monitor. Safety warning labels for their
Evenflo baby monitor can be acquired by visiting this website and clicking on the Evenflo
logo.
Parents and caregivers are urged to visit BabyMonitorSafety.org to obtain an Evenflo
safety warning label for their monitor. At Evenflo, child safety is a top priority. By
joining this campaign, we are educating the public while keeping infants and toddlers
out of harm's way.
To prevent strangulation, Evenflo and JPMA urge parents and caregivers to:
- Immediately check the location of all monitors and other products with electric
cords, including those mounted on the wall, to make sure cords are out of your
child's reach.
- Place monitor and other cords at least three feet away from any part of the crib,
bassinet, play yard, or other safe sleep environment.
- Never position a monitor inside or on the edge of a crib.
